Installfest Archive

This page contains information about what an installfest is and various presentations that have been performed at past installfests.

What is an "Installfest"?

Most Linux User Groups (LUGs) around the world, including Wellylug run what are called "Installfests". These happen usually around once a year, and are aimed at users new to Linux. Some of the things that occur at the installfest are:

Various Presentations
We run presentations on various topics throughout the day, aimed at users new to Linux.

Demo Linux Systems
Come along and see what a demo Linux system looks like.

OSS for Windows
Still want to use Windows, but want to get free, secure, Open Source alternatives to MS software (such as MS Office)? Come along and take home free CDs containing OSS software for windows, such as OpenOffice, Firefox and Thunderbird.

Free CDs!
If you are interested in Linux, but are not quite ready to install it on your computer, take home free Linux CDs. These CDs allow you to run and try Linux without installing anything. And if you do decide to install it later on, you also use our free CDs to install it yourself.

Get Linux Installed!
As the name suggests, the event allows you to have Linux installed onto your computer, by Wellylug members. Or, if you have already installed Linux and need a hand in getting something to work, come along and we can help you! :-)

When do you run installfests?

We run an installfest roughly once a year (usually around Sep/Oct). We have run installfests in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
